SNG works at the Photobloc exhibition in Krakow

Międzinarodowe centrum kultury in Krakow, Poland, organised the exhibition Photobloc. Central Europe in Photobooks, for which the Slovak National Gallery loaned photographs by our most important photographers of the 20th century - Martin Martinček and Karol Kállay from the Collection of Photomedia.

The exhibition presents the first comprehensive and critical approach of the turbulent history of Central Europe, illustrated by albums, art books and promotional publications.

"More than a hundred books from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania illustrate how photography reflected the processes of formulating the new identity of society and young Central European countries, shaping their image, ideology, dreams of modernisation and future. "

The exhibition runs from November 22nd, 2019 to March 1st, 2020 at Międzinarodowe centrum kultury (International Cultural Center) at Rynek Główny 25 in Krakow.

"Dreams of Central European artists, utopian visions of the future, struggle for independence and pictures of everyday life along with propaganda, tragedy and war. Seen through a prism of photobook, Central Europe is beautiful and brutal, moving and shocking."
