While some media outlets and politicians are busy creating controversies based on unverified information from social media, the Slovak National Gallery remains focused on the purpose for which it was established – art and making it accessible to the public. Two weeks ago, we opened an exceptional exhibition by the renowned artist Tomas Rajlich. We are also presenting visitors with the work of the outstanding visual artist Adam Szentpétery and are intensively preparing a major retrospective of Rudolf Fila, which opens in just one week.
However, readers of the arts and culture sections of certain media outlets have learned, and continue to learn, virtually nothing about these significant exhibition projects. Yet unverified and false information about an alleged boxing event immediately captured their attention.
We would appreciate it if arts and culture journalists devoted at least comparable attention to actual cultural events and reported on them objectively, and if politicians took the time to verify basic facts before making public statements.
We at the SNG will continue to focus on our work. We would welcome it if those who are so eager to comment on us approached their own work with the same level of professionalism.
